Hello

This blog is mainly a place for a postgraduate student to explore the world of the music industry and how to go about the winding routes on finding my feet in the world. This blog will be my step by step guide of my path and I hope that my ramblings can help others like me to find that they are not alone navigating in this industry and bring hope to those who seek their dreams in the sector.

My Story

My early years were full of cotton candy skies and topsy turvy letter monsters. I struggled with understanding what other children seemed to be able to grasp and I spent weeks feeling like I was slowly falling behind. One day, out from my cotton candy nightmare, came a stern but pleasant woman. She chuckled lightly and gently took my hand. We took a stroll through my world and with her help, she made me notice the blueness of the skies and those letter monsters were my allies.

From then on, with the help of that remarkable woman, I grew to love the real world; the world where everything made sense. This wonderful woman, to which there were no words in the human language to describe how incredible she was, was in fact my year 4 teacher. She came up with silly rhymes that made sense somewhat, creating houses for mathematic equations and so forth. She was by far the most extraordinary teacher I ever had.

Through her, my mind grew into a mature student. She recognised my ways of the learning difficulty that no one knew I had, swiftly standing me on the first stepping stone to overcome the difficulty; and I am forever grateful for that.

With my mind expanding, I grew to love a certain subject: music. Although music always had a heavy influence in my life, I found it more of a passion than a simple sing-a-long in the shower. I Picked up any instrument I could find, starting with my voice. When I arrived in secondary school, the first thing I did was to sign myself up with the school choir. I went on every school trip to sing at events, participate with a younger crowd and even visited my primary school where it all began. I sang from the top of my lungs every moment I had the chance to. From my singing grew a burning desire to learn stringed instruments, ending up in the last years of my secondary school teaching myself guitar and ukulele. To this day, I am still finding instruments to learn just for the challenge of new things.

I found out whilst reading books upon books about dyslexia that the worldwide statistics back in 2013 was that between 5% and 15% of the school age population had been struggling in silence with dyslexia and with the power of music, a teacher could help the students understand and memorise their lessons with a simple song or rhyme, hence why my teacher had my class chanting and singing along during lessons. I firmly believe that music is a wonderful way to express an educational side of a child’s growth in knowledge and as an aspiring primary school teacher, I believe that with the help of rhymes and singing, I too can help my future students with the gift of music.

It took me years to overcome my learning difficulty, and it has inspired me to help children who are in the exact same position I was in many years ago. My dreams and aspirations I owe to that one teacher back in year 4 and will make her proud to what I will achieve going to university and graduating. I work hard to achieve my goals. I still have that fun, bubbly personality and can be firm and strict with my learning. I share my time equally within social and educational activities such as going out with my family, babysitting for family friends, and taking time to see an occasional musical every now and again. I also love to read fictional and non-fictional books and writing my own song lyrics.

And now, after completing my music Performance BTEC with Confetti Institute in 2018, graduating with a 2:2 Honours in BA Music Performance at Nottingham Trent University in 2021 and with experience working with the YMCA Brunel Group in Somerset (UK), I am now approaching my year of my Music Business Postgraduate course with Nottingham Trent University (London).

To quote my favourite line of a very nerdy movie:

"This is where the fun begins."
